May 1989 (?). Photographer: SERGEY SUPALOV.

The photo shoot with the records was done spontaneously. It was apparently in May 1989. We met, as always, at "Pod Tankom". Someone brought records borrowed for listening that were to be returned. Who it was I do not remember, it was long ago. Maybe it was me returning to Supalov, maybe Supalov to Budnik. In any case these are inessential details.
We went out for a smoke onto the area in front of "Pod Tankom", where a summer café had just been set up: tables, with cheerful umbrellas hung over them. The café was not working yet because, despite the sunny day, it was still rather chilly. The sight was almost surreal: a deserted, dreary café and empty tables under the cheerful umbrellas' tents swaying in the wind.
To some such a view brings thoughts of the eternal, while others see in it wonderful scenery for a shoot. Sergey Supalov took out his camera and said: "Guys, I have a couple of frames left on the film. I need to finish it so I can develop it sooner; let me shoot you against the background of Pod Tankom."
Whose idea it was to be photographed with records cannot be recalled now, but apparently it was Sergey's own. I got the disc "Trilogy" (1972) by my favourite since school days, the trio Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and Andrey Korelsky got the compilation "Greatest Hits" (1975) by the Scots Nazareth. Andrey and I were more than satisfied with this distribution. The others apparently did not get enough records. All that remains is to name the participants of this spontaneous photo shoot. From left to right: Alexey Denisov, Alexey Samarin, Andrey Korelsky, Andrey Lukin.
The people in the picture
The picture shows Andrey Korelsky (Autodafe, Kamera) and Andrey Lukin, the bass player of Oblachny Kray; the photographer was Sergey Supalov. The history of the café is told in "Pod Tankom": the café that became the home of Arkhangelsk rock.
