Oblachny Krai 2003 "Patriot"

This album turned out not only exceptionally malicious (even by Oblachny Krai's standards), but also incredibly "crooked." The guitar riffs became even sharper and more chopped, the sound bordering on industrial even drier and more ringing, and the sonic experiments, like the wild saxophone inserts in the arrangements, aren't aesthetically pleasing but are delivered substantially, crudely, and vividly. All together, it's an unplaned, lopsided, crookedly cobbled-together monster, yet impressive in its raw energy. Although, of course, things aren't that simple. Oblachny Krai wouldn't be themselves if there wasn't a healthy dose of mockery and recognizable aggressive trash in all this mess. For example, in the excellent track "Nastya" (compare it, by the way, with "I Stand on the Marble Balcony"):

--------------------------------------------
I was once, ya hear, bro,
For real, I ain't lyin',
Dragged by some member to a high-society bash,
Bankers, diplomats, art critics, snobs,
Poets, musicians, and just plain fuckwits.

I stand in the corner, my outfit far from fresh,
I'm just a Chilean chump amidst all this flash.
Face blue as a plum, haircut like a papakha,
Probably hungover, or maybe just post-coital.

And later, right there:

Her eyes are Spain, a bullfight, pure passion,
A delicate lacework creature, while I'm all like parchment.

All of this is played to a caveman heavy metal in the aesthetic of "A Monster Attacking a Two-Toed Individual." Starting with the instrumental "March" in a similar vein, the album ends with the symphonic "Waltz," where Bogayev plays the electric guitar alongside a chamber orchestra conducted by Andrei Korelsky. As a result, we get 46 minutes of music that is practically devoid of filler—wild, absurd, trashy, odious, and politically incorrect, just like life itself. (Excerpt from Special Radio)
